Wine (and Spirit) Cocktails Without Worry

Recently I sat down with my friend Jameson Fink for his Wine Without Worry Podcast, and he had me come up with 5 cocktails utilizing wine and spirits in the same mix. Here’s what we came up with:

From top to bottom (clockwise):

1. Village Sour

1.5oz el jimador anejo
1oz fresh lemon juice
.75oz small hands food pineapple gum syrup
.25oz giffard triple sec
2 dashes scrappy’s lime bitters

shake and fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

float .25oz pinot noir of your choice.

2. Death In The Mid – Afternoon

in a chilled coupe glass:

1 sugar cube soaked in scrappy lavander bitters
fill with any high quality cava or sparkling wine.
garnish with a large twist of lemon.

3. Rose Sangria

In a large wine glass:

1oz lairds 100 proof apple brandy
.75oz giffard triple sec
.75oz giffard lichi-li liqueur
.75oz fresh lemon juice
.75oz fresh orange juice
3oz gilbert cellars 2012 rose of mourvedre
2oz sparkling rose of your choice
2 dashes peychaud’s bitters

stir on crushed ice.

garnish with an orange slice, a lemon slice, strawberries and mint.

4.  Mezcal & Sherry Dessert Cocktail

1oz del maguey ‘vida’ mezcal
1oz lustau east india solera sherry
.5oz honey syrup (2:1 ratio)

stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

garnish with a large zest of orange.

5.  La Rosa

In a mixing tin: 

Muddle 4 fresh strawberries
1oz campo de encanto pisco
1oz fresh lime juice
.75oz rich simple syrup (2:1 ratio)
2 dashes peychaud’s bitters
.5oz campari

shake and fine strain into a collins glass.

add crushed ice.

top with 2oz a light & crisp verdejo of your choice.

garnish with 1 strawberry.
